How it works

Dial 084 198 0010 (Standard VAS Rates Apply). You will be asked to key in the international number you want to call. Enter that number and you will be connected to whomever you called. Please note that you will need to enter 00 and then the international code, not the 09 we use in South Africa. For example:

  • USA 001 not 091
  • UK 0044 not 0944
  • Israel 00972 not 09972

How we provide the service

If you have a computer with a microphone and speakers, and a good Internet connection, you can communicate using VoIP for free. A good example is Skype, which most of us are very familiar with.

Dial free has made it even easier by doing away with your pc! It has integrated cellular telephony with this amazing VoIP technology, the same technology Skype uses.

Cell C has given us our 084 198 0010 number (Standard VAS Rates Apply) which has been integrated into a VoIP server. This gives you the same interface as a pc, but now with the mobility, using your cell phone or local landline. You get to connect to friends and family overseas, for the cost of a local call!

What exactly is VoIP?

VoIP (voice over IP) is an IP telephony term for a set of facilities used to manage the delivery of voice information over the Internet.

VoIP involves sending voice information in digital form in discrete packets rather than by using the traditional circuit-committed protocols of the public switched telephone network. A major advantage of VoIP and Internet telephony is that it avoids the costs charged by ordinary telephone services.

VoIP is especially popular with long-distance calls. The main reason for which people are so massively turning to this new technology is the cost. VoIP is said to be cheap, but most people use it for free, via pc.
